CHICAGO (AFP) - The fugitive son of a radical Islamic cleric who was shot dead in an FBI raid near Detroit was arrested without incident Thursday by Canadian police, officials said.

Mujahid Carswell is accused of helping his father run an organized crime ring out of his predominantly African American mosque in Detroit, Michigan, which allegedly preached violent revolution to create a separate Muslim state.

Carswell was one of 11 men caught dealing in stolen goods in an undercover FBI operation. His father, Luqman Abdullah, was killed Wednesday after he refused to surrender and began firing when he was confronted in a warehouse in Dearborn, Michigan.

Two other suspects remain at large, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.

Carswell lived in Windsor, Canada just a couple blocks away from the tunnel to Detroit, and trained children in martial arts at mosques in both cities.

He was arrested by the Windsor police department and is being held by the Canadian border patrol service for immigration violations.
